Just as you can tell the age of a tree by counting the rings in its trunk, so can you tell the aged of a turtle by counting the rings on its shell. For this turtle toy, the rings are represented by patterns worked in combinations of plain and purl stitch.

The pattern is from the book Kath Dalmeny’s World of Knitted Toys, and the full list of over 50 projects is shown below.

The turtle pattern calls for 50g of dusty green, 20g of dark green, 20g mid green, and scraps of black yarn for the features.

Additional supplies: two black beads and black thread for the eyes (but black yarn stitches work well too), toy stuffing.
