This is a crochet pattern for a cute coaster set in the shape of a land turtle (tortoise) or sea turtle. The pattern will give you the option to make either… or both!

The set includes 6 shell patterned coasters which store away neatly inside a turtle shaped body. And just to make it super cute, when the coasters are in use, you can flip your turtle inside out to make it hide in its shell!
Yes I know, I know… sea turtles don’t hide… but it’s still cute, right?

Written in US terms with a conversion chart included for UK terms. Photographs have been used throughout to help with clear instructions. A printer friendly version will also be included.

Finished coasters measure approx. 4.5”/11.5cm in diameter. The finished turtle holders measure approx. 9”/23cm head to tail and 8”/20cm wide for the tortoise or 9”/23cm wide for the turtle.

I recommend using Worsted/Aran weight 100% cotton yarn in 2 shades of Green and 2 shades of Brown. I have used Rico Creative Cotton Aran yarn worked using a 4.5mm hook. To make 1 turtle or tortoise coaster set, you will need 2 x 50g balls of Brown (58) and Pistachio (41) and 1 x 50g ball of Nougat (56) and Olive (50).

You will need:
Worsted/UK Aran weight cotton yarn in 2 shades of Brown and 2 shades of Green - approx. 100yds of Dark Brown and Light Green, and 80yds of Light Brown and Dark Green.
4.5mm crochet hook
Toy stuffing (Polyester fibre filling)
Optional: A pair of 10mm safety eyes
Yarn needle & scissors
