This cowl was designed to match the Tussock Hat:

Inspired by Icelandic Lopi yarn and mounds of Tussock grass, I designed this cowl to knit up quickly using bulky yarn and to produce a gender-neutral cowl that has texture, warmth and versatility.

This cowl pattern is suitable for beginner knitters. The pattern is offered in a universal size that fits most children and adults, but the size can be easily adjusted to fit larger and smaller necks by adding or subtracting stitch pattern repeats.

This pattern uses approximately 125 yards, or 115 meters (around 80g) of bulky yarn. The textured knit-purl-based stitch shows off the subtle gradations of heathered and tonal yarns.

This pattern is a good match for bulky yarns with a bit of a halo in heathered earth-toned hues.

Recommended yarns include:

  • Cascade 128 and Cascade 128 Superwash
  • Rowan Cocoon
  • Istex Alafosslopi
  • Brown Sheep Lamb’s Pride Bulky
  • West Yorkshire Spinners Re:treat Chunky Roving
  • Berroco Vintage Chunky
