This tutorial is for everyone who has ever wanted to knit a pair of two-coloured socks, but never quite dared to.

The ten-page tutorial covers issues ranging from general background on sock knitting over anchoring floats in stranded knitting and up to different styles of heel and toe.

Whoever doesn’t need all detailed support can just skip it and only catch the pattern itself.

The zig-zag motif is a fun and quick knit with best results achieved in two solid colours. Combinations of a soft gradient and one solid colour might be interesting as well!

Tutorial features:

  • general background on sock knitting and basics
  • options for sizing
  • charted pattern for stranded knitting
  • instructions on how to anchor floats in stranded knitting
  • instructions for heel flap
  • instructions for short-row heel (no wrap, no YO, no inc/dec, no counting, no holes)
  • instructions for star toe
  • instructions for wedge toe
  • instructions for kitchener stitch
  • several links to photo- and videotutorials on single matters

The size is made to fit medium women’s feet, but by using different needle sizes, different sizes can be easily realised. Length is adjustable.

Depending on size, you need 50g - 60g of Main Colour and 25g to 35g of Contrast Colour. Yarn used is standard 4-ply sock yarn.

The pattern has been test-knit.
