Blankets are my life. I am always snuggled underneath a blanket. They are perfectly cozy and provide so much comfort. My goal with this design was to create a blanket that I could keep in my office to keep my legs warm without the ends of the blanket getting stuck under the legs of my chair. Mission accomplished!

There are two styles of stripes with this design. You can choose between small stripes and use a little bit of each colour of your advent calendar. Or, you can choose large stripes and use a more consistent amount of each colour.

The reason the yardage changes so much per colour is due to the construction of starting in the middle and working outwards towards the corners. As you get closer to the corner, less yarn will be used with each colour.

Don’t have an advent and want to knit this blanket? You can choose any colours you want and switch them up as you go making your blanket truly unique.

In colour photos show the small stripes version of the Twenty-Four Twelve Blanket. The black and white photo shows the large stripes version. It is not in colour because I am using my 2021 advent calendar and don’t want to spoil any of the colours for anyone.

Shape:
a seamed blanket filled with garter ridges and eyelets

Materials:
fingering weight yarn in 24 colours
US size 4 (3.5mm) needles in preferred style for working in the round (or size needed to obtain gauge)
stitch marker and tapestry needle

Gauge:
22 sts and 26 rows = 4 inches in pattern, before blocking

Measurements:
Each square should be approximately 15 inches long and 15 inches wide - before blocking and seaming

After seaming and blocking, your blanket should be approximately 40 inches long and 40 inches wide. I recommend blocking very aggressively to achieve these dimensions.

Yardage Requirements:
Yardage will vary depending on the option you choose for your blanket. Choosing the “Small Stripes” style, you will use approximately 5-88 yards per colour. Choosing the “Large Stripes“ style, you will use approximately 10-88 yards per colour. Please note, I have added 5% to the yardage requirements compared to my usage to account for a small variance in tension.

If you don’t have 24 minis, you can use a variety of colours and alternate at your own preference, or two colours (approximately 650 yards each).

Sizing:
One size, approximately 40” by 40” after blocking aggressively

Skills Required/Stitches Used:

  • long tail cast on
  • k2tog/ssk
  • yarnover
  • mattress stitch seaming (video link provided)
