This is my first ever written cable hat pattern! I wanted to make something that wasn’t as visually bulky as some of the other braided cable patterns I’d seen online, but still had something visually interesting going on. It took a lot of math and time to figure out every piece, but I’m extremely happy with the results!

SIZE/GAUGE

  • Adult
  • The finished product will be approximately 18 inches around (unstretched) and 9 inches from top to bottom
  • 4 stitches X 5 rows = 1 inch

MATERIALS

  • 1 skein (at least 300 yds) of MEDIUM (4) weight yarn
  • Pictured: Lion Brand Scarfie Yarn - Charcoal/Aqua (labeled as BULKY (5) but knits up like a MEDIUM (4))
  • No. 10 (6.0 mm) Circular Needles
  • No. 10 (6.0 mm) Double Pointed Needles (DPN)
  • Cable Needle (optional)
  • Scissors
  • Yarn needle

ABBREVIATIONS USED

  • k + knit
  • p = purl
  • yo = yarn over
  • k2tog = knit 2 together
  • ssk = slip, slip knit
  • m1 = Make One (included on How To page)
  • c6f = Move 3 stitches to either a DPN or cable needle and hold in the front, knit next 3 stitches, then knit hte 3 from the held needle
