A textured and very stretchy children’s sock for kids sized small preemie to around 8 years old. Extensive information on sizing is provided in the pattern to help you choose the right size, and even if you end up a little bit off the stretchy nature of the waffle stitch pattern means you’re probably fine anyway.

Any fingering weight sock-type yarn can be used for this pattern, go super-soft for the very youngest (or the very picky!) and look for something with a little bit of nylon, silk or nettles to add durability for kids who will wear their socks in shoes.

A typical sock yarn with 350-450 m / 370-490 yards per 100 g / 3.5 oz will require approximately 25, 50 (50, 50, 75, 95)(130, 140, 190, 230) m / 30, 55 (55, 55, 80, 105)(145, 155, 210, 250) yards for sizes small preemie ca. 1 kg / 2 lbs, preemie ca. 2 kg / 4 lbs, 3-6 m, 6-12 m, 1-2 y)(2-3 y, 3-4 y, 5-6 y, 7-8 y). (Foot measurements and corresponding shoe sizes are given for reference in the actual PDF.)
