Two Phase Ami Kata Cowl
This pattern is inspired from a Japanese textile motif. It’s a 2-color reversible cowl that can be done in either Malabrigo Sock or Malabrigo Arroyo. It combines 2 reversible techniques - Brioche and Double Knitting in the round. I have personally never seen these two techniques together despite being both reversible by nature.
People tend to wear cowls differently and ultimately, the finished dimensions are up to you. You can make the cowl longer or shorter, or double the height, or change up the colors. But you need to have 2 obviously contrasting yarns (which could be a combination between a solid dark or a solid light, or a solid and a variegated yarn), and enough yarn to make this cowl come to life. The two sizes are really just 2 yarn weights (so it depends on the thickness of your choice).
Materials:
- Chiagoo Red Lace Circular Knitting needles 24”(3.00mm/US2.5 for sock weight; 4.00mm/US6 for DK)
- Malabrigo Sock (1 skein-main color, 1 skein- contrast) or Malabrigo Arroyo (1 skein-main color, 1 skein - contrast)
- Stitch markers
- tape measure
- crochet hook for crochet cast on/bind off (optional)
Update December 2025:
I actually stopped upkeeping my website in 2023 because the online shop did not take off and it was more expensive to keep it alive than selling any of my patterns or products. All of my patterns will be sold through Ravelry moving forward (unless at some point, I find a better webhost and find more time to focus on this business versus my day job). For future questions after purchase of the pattern, please email me at rmvcaluya@gmail.com (rufina@himaymaycreations.com is no longer available)
