I spent three years in my early twenties working on sail training vessels, specifically the Lady Washington and Hawaiian Chieftain. New sailors go through a two-week training program, and were referred to as “Two-weekers”. This hat is named for those trainees, and not the time it will take you to knit it! If you are careful when you weave in the ends, it is also reversible!

During my time working outdoors on sailboats, I became very particular about the hats that wore while on deck. They needed to be brightly colored, cover my ears, thickly knit to keep the wind out, and toasty warm. When my roommate was accepted into the sail training program this year and asked for a hat, I knew I could create the perfect deck hat to keep her warm and remind her of home.
