Ucluelet is a small shawlette knitted in laceweight yarn, shaped to stay around your shoulders. The stocking stitch body ends with a knit and purl section reminiscent of boats, and then gentle, pebble-textured, barely-there ruffles are created. The shawlette ends with a little lace for lightness, and a picot cast off. Ucluelet is suitable for beginners to lace and laceweight knitting because there are no complicated charts to follow, and the stitch patterns are all small and easily accomplished. Its simplicity also means it’s a great chance to use a variegated or semi-solid yarn which can sometimes drown out more complicated patterning. Ucluelet is 98cm/39 inches from tip to tip (measured along the inside of the ruffle), and 29cm/11½ inches deep.
