These are very, very basic cardies, traditionally constructed in pieces, with the front garter bands knitted separately and sewn down on left and right fronts to meet at the back neck. The top two versions, with either a V or crew neck, would suit any kind of 4 ply at all (long-or-short-repeat variegate, tweed, nep, textured, whatever) wonderfully well. The diamond lace-bordered version at bottom would do better in a more solid-coloured, smooth yarn. So this pattern amply earns its keep because any 4 ply will suit it one way or another.
