This is the ultimate triangle shawl pattern that will knit with any yarn to any size. As small or as large as you like. It’s perfect for handspun yarns! It really lets the yarn be the star of the show.

Easy to start and knit till you either run out of yarn, get to the size you desire, run out of time or just get so bored you can’t go on anymore.

A chunky yarn knitted on 10mm needles will need from 75m for a small necker to 150m for a larger shawl . A lace weight yarn knitted on 3.75 mm needles will need from 250m for a small necker to 750m for a larger shawl.

The basic pattern is a triangular shawl worked in garter stitch with the first stitch on each row slipped to give a nice edge.

Gauge is variable, hence no gauge is specified. Select needle to suit the yarn and finish. Soft, loose and drappy needs an open stitch and bigger needle. Snug and firmer knitted fabric needs a tighter stitch.

Any stitch pattern can be substituted for the garter stitch, whether you prefer smooth stocking stitch, or love lace/cables, whatever you like. If you want to work in another stitch pattern to avoid the edges curling work a garter stitch border by knitting the first and last 2 or 3 stiches of each row. Feeling really gung ho add a lace border…

I take care over the writing of The Fibre Workshop patterns and strive to keep them clear, easy to follow and without error. But sometimes the pattern is unclear or just plain confusing or there is an error. I really appreciate your feedback on my patterns so please email me if you have any questions or find errors.

So enjoy this pattern and send me a photo or upload your projects when your done.
