I designed this cowl pattern to be an easy segue into lace knitting for a newbie, or a simple knit for a seasoned lace knitter. If you are searching for courage to get started on a “tiny yarn” project, I hope this pattern finds you.

There are 2 length variation of the Undaunted cowl. The long version is approximately 60 inches in circumference and 16 inches deep. The short version is approximately 36 inches in circumference and 10 or 13 inches deep (3 or 4 pattern repeat). Measurements are after blocking. Gauge is not terribly important – if you are an exceptionally tight knitter, I recommend going up a needle size. You may also opt to use beads, or choose to leave them out. The pattern is written for both.

Materials:
Long version used 100g Madelinetosh Prairie (100% superwash merino wool, 840 yds). Colorway was Baroque Violet, which has been discontinued. I like Nocturne and Eleven Dark as a good substitute.
Short version used 50g Malabrigo Silkpaca (70/30 alpaca/silk, 420 yds). Colorways 862 Piedras and 096 Sunset shown.
US 7 circular needle in 24” length for short version, 36” length for long version
Stitch marker
Yarn needle to weave in ends
Optional – Dental floss threader and size 6/0 TOHO seed beads, approximately 70g for the long version, 40g for the short version.
