ABOUT THE DESIGN

Inspired by a lifetime of looking up at the skies, this shawl design is a knitted translation of a cloud phenomenon that resembles undulating waves or ripples. Known as undulatus, this formation can occur at varying altitudes.

CONSTRUCTION

Undulatus is a sideways triangular shawl that begins with the right point, with increases worked until the full depth is achieved. Then decreases are worked, ending with the left point. The diagonal lines of the motif are worked with knit and purl stitches, creating a fabric that is fully reversible.

GAUGE

23 stitches by 32 rows = 4 inches or 10 cm over motif, after blocking

Note: Achieving exact gauge is not critical for this project, but your gauge will affect the yardage required and finished measurements.
If you choose not to make a gauge swatch, you may want to block your work after completing the first 8 inches or 20 cm to ensure that you like the feel of the fabric.
