This pattern dynamically calculates the rows and stitches based on your inputs into the PDF. In order for the pattern to work correctly, you will need to open the pattern in Chrome when on your computer, and Adobe Reader (free app!) when on your phone.

The Universal Scarf Pattern is a free Mae to Measure pattern meant to introduce you to my Universal style of patterns. The idea is simple: you choose the stitch and the overall style, and the PDF handles the math and construction so you can make a scarf that fits your preferences without guesswork. Whether you crochet, Tunisian crochet, or knit, you can use any yarn weight and any stitch pattern to create something totally your own.

This pattern is worked as a rectangle and can be customized into a straight scarf or an infinity scarf (joining instructions included). You can also add fringe if you’d like, and you can make it any width and any length. The PDF includes a helpful input for your height, which suggests an “optimal” scarf length, but you can override it and customize the length to whatever you want.

You’ll input your height, your desired scarf width, and your gauge information. If you want an estimated yardage/meterage, you can also include yarn and gauge swatch information. The PDF will then calculate the stitches and rows needed to fit your desired inputs. There are then instructions for joining in the round for an infinity scarf, adding fringe, and swapping construction so that the length of the scarf is stitches and the width is rows if desired.

MAE TO MEASURE
A Mae to Measure pattern is an interactive, PDF pattern that calculates the number of stitches, rows, and yardage for a pattern. The benefit of a Mae to Measure pattern is that it makes your pattern size inclusive to virtually any body size (theoretically, it should even work for an infant!) This is done by allowing the user to type in their body’s measurements onto your pattern. Then, in the background, the pattern will calculate all the math within the pattern to fit the person perfectly.

SIZES
Virtually any size! Since it calculates your measurements using your inputs, this pattern will work for everyone.
