From Stitch 'N Bitch Crochet: The Happy Hooker:

My goal was to create a sweater simple enough for a beginner to make, but with a nicely fitted flattering shape instead of the boxy rectangle sweaters you see in most crochet books.  The body is done entirely without seams; the shaping is achieved solely through changing stitch patterns.  The only seams required are the underarms and armholes.  The V-stitch is an open pattern that moves along quickly so it’s a breeze to work on, and the cotton yarn makes is very versatile.  I wear this sweater with a vintage wrap skirt and Frye boots, but change the color to a creamy beige or pale pink and it would look very Victorian and lacy, while black would make it dressier and quite dramatic.  Use your imagination and make it your own.

Note on Gauge:  In V-st pattern, 5 V stitches and 7 rows double crochet = 4 inches.  In (sc, ch1) pattern, 13 stitches and 14 rows = 4 inches
