The Unwasteful Sock Pattern is a toe-up construction with an after-thought heel.

I have been knitting for a long time, and find that I often have an awkward amount of yarn left after casting-off.

I am not one to knit “scrappy” projects, mostly because none of my yarn seems to go together.

This pattern was inspired by that problem.

It combines a thrifty, solid color with a small amount of hand dyed yarn. So you can get the most out of those very nice skeins.

Pattern is written for Magic Loop. But can be adapted to your preferred method for small circumference knitting.

Instructions include a photo tutorial for working the afterthought heel.

A great pattern for knitters new to afterthought heel socks!

Yardage
Color A: 160 (200, 230, 310, 350) yards

Color B: 25 yards (all sizes)

This pattern was designed to go with the “Fiberly Surprise Soap”, which has a 25 yard mini skein inside. You can find this at: wearefiberly.com/product-category/soap

The yardage for Color A gives an ankle height sock. It is easy to add more length to the leg to give you a taller sock, but you will need more yarn.

Yarn Substitutions
You can use any smooth, sock yarn. Preferably one with nylon.
