This is a pattern for an adult sized hat with modern fair isle motifs of pine trees and abstract snowflakes. It is inspired by the colors and shapes of “up north” Michigan. The design has no more than two colors per row and uses worsted weight yarn, making it a quick knit. Yet it still holds interest due to the fair isle designs. The unique crown shaping of this hat creates a star shape at the top of the hat.

This hat requires knowledge of basic fair isle/stranded knitting techniques, knitting in the round, and basic decrease stitches (SSK, K2TOG, and CDC). This is a charted pattern that also includes written instructions for the decreases at the top. It contains instructions for adult sizes small (18”), medium, (20”) and large (22”). This pattern has specific instructions for left-handed knitters!

Around 150 yards of the main color, and 50 yards of each three contrast colors were used. The sample was worked in Cascade 220 Heathers, but any worsted weight yarn will work.
