Increasing the body: Round 1: (K7, M1) rep to end. (80 sts)
Decreasing the hat: Round 1: K2tog, K39, K2tog, to last 6 sts, K to end. (78)

The warm and cozy Upshaw hat and matching scarf are knitted
in easy stockinette with seed stitch borders and both pieces are embellished/top stitched with the same easy to create top stitch design once you are finished knitting, you may even decide not to do the stitching.

Both patterns are fully written and show close-up photos of the top stitched design.
Hat sizes S-17” and L- 20”.

C1 - Easy Care Chunky weight cake, 130 yards/100 grams.
2 cakes for the scarf and 1 cake for the hat.
C2 - 5 yards for the hat & 5 yards for the scarf of the same yarn in contrasting color.

Notions needed
US size 7 (5.5 mm) circular needle 16“ (42 cm ) in length used for both projects.
Stitch marker to mark beginning of rounds for the hat only.
Tapestry needle for finishing and top stitching for both projects.

Gauge
15 sts and 21 rows in 4” of stockinette stitch.

Techniques applied
Knitting and purling in the round, increasing, decreasing, taking stitches off with tapestry needle, secure, weaving in ends. Top stitching.
