Urba & Flora is a cabled fingerless mitt design inspired by the contrast of gently swaying trees among skyscrapers in the city. I’ve watched these same two elements weave together and change through the seasons from my windows. Urba & Flora mimics this textural contrast through the use of a climbing cable reminiscent of a botanical vine curving across raised ribbing.

Construction
Urba and Flora uses mirrored cables worked in the round from the cuff up. An Italian Cast On and a Kitchener bind off in-the-round is used to achieve an unbroken flow from cuff to tip. There are some simple, though unusual, cables used along with knitting through the back loops, purls, a handful of make 1 stitches, and slipped stitches.

Techniques
• Italian Cast On
• Directional increases (m1R, m1L, m1pR, m1pL)
• Slipped stitches, knit through the back loops
• Cable Stitches
• Two needle Kitchener Bind Off in-the-round

Yarn
Approximately 210 yards (192 meters) fingering weight yarn, preferably high twist without much halo to showcase cable and ribbed stitches; solid, tonal yarns work best
