The Urban Plaid Beanie and Cowl pattern is a fun, easy, rhythmic and almost mindless knit that is perfect for using up your odds and ends! With a main color and contrasting color bands in bulky or super bulky weight, you can make them as colorful or monochromatic as you want. It’s so quick, it’s perfect for market prep and gifting. So start turning those scraps into something pretty and practical now!

This one-size-fits-most pattern is easy enough for new knitters. The color bands are created mosaic knitting style, with only one color being worked at a time. So there’s no carrying strands and no unnecessary bulk. Slip stitches are all that’s required to create the color play. And with only a 4-stitch repeat, pattern is easily customized for other sizes.

Easy-level pattern is written in US terms (English).
Beanie pattern is for a one-size-fits-most unisex beanie with single or folded brim that knits up in a couple of hours for super bulky and not much longer for bulky. Cowl pattern has no shaping at all. Both are worked in the round from the bottom up, with a 4-stitch repeat over 4 rounds creating the color bands. With so many color options, each item can be as unique as you want it to be!

Materials:
Super Bulky yarn (recommend Malabrigo Rasta) with size US 13/15 (9/10 mm) circular needles and 16”/40 cm cord; Beanie - 54 yds/49 m main color with 5.3 yds/4.8 m for each contrast color, Cowl - 80 yds/73 m main color and 6.5 yds/ 6 m for each contrast color.
Bulky yarn (Recommend Malabrigo Chunky) with size US 10.5/11 (6.5/8 mm) circular needles and 16”/40 cm cord; Beanie - 60 yds/55 m main color with 5 yds/4.5 m for each contrast color (plus 20 yds/18 m additional main color for folded brim), Cowl - 94 yds/86 m main color with 6 yds/5.5 m for each contrast color. Many other brands will work too, just be sure to confirm gauge with a test swatch before beginning.

Please note, there are no instructions included to make a faux fur pompom. This pattern is for a beanie and cowl only.
