This pattern is free. With that said, you are welcome to make a contribution to a local charity of your own choosing, that equals what you would have paid for a pattern (45 nok / $4.98 usd / €4.22 euro). For this pattern, I recommend that you support your local Salvation Army (Frelsesarmeen i Norge)

“Utstrakt” is a pattern made for a knitalong with the same name in Norwegian. The word “Utstrakt” is Norwegian for “Reaching out”.

The pattern is inspired by the flag of The Salvation Army. The star symbolizes the fire of the holy spirit, which empower people towards helping others in service. These mittens shall be filled with heartwarming care for whoever is the receiver.

The “Utstrakt” knitalong became a voluntary effort that stretched out to all of Norway, including Svalbard, but also to Scotland. Knitters from these areas contributed 126 pairs of mittens, 2 pairs of socks, 4 hats, and 2 shawls that was turned over to The Salvation Army in Norway on December 15th 2020. This heartwarming gift will keep hands and hearts warm throughout this tough winter season in all of Oslo. Thank you.

The “Utstrakt” knitalong will return in september of 2021, with a new chapter, and a new pattern. Let’s make this a tradition!
