This star-shaped shawl is inspired by the Public Service Broadcasting record The Race to Space and specifically the track Valentina. Valentina Tereshkova was the first woman and civilian into space in 1963 on Voshtok 6 and to this day is the only woman to have been on a solo space mission.

This shawl starts off with 6 stitches and has a 12 stitch increase every other row so quickly becomes a very wide piece of fabric. There is a central lace panel to the shawl to reflect the night sky, which complements the rainbow flecked yarn used for the two borders.

You will need 5 stitch markers for this project.

You will also need two skeins of 4ply yarn in 100g.
