Do you need a small project to use up your spare yarn, and practice some new colour-work skills? This little monster will eat up your stash and is great as a plushy friend for your laptop, pincushion, key ring, bag ornament or just as a mini cushion!
Materials
Approx 20-30 grams 4ply/Fingering, DK or chunky weight yarn. You can use any colours, but a contrast between the primary colour and the background colour will make a more effective monster.
Yarn A: 15 grams approx - background colour – In Image 4ply monster is pink.
Yarn B: 10 grams approx - motif colour – In image 4ply monster is ivory.
Needles
4ply Yarn - use 2mm circular or long needles.
DK Yarn - use 3mm circular or long needles.
Chunky Yarn - use 3.5mm circular or long needles.
Note: If you find it difficult to knit as it’s too tight, go up a needle size. It all depends on how tight or loose you knit.
Also note that larger needles and thicker yarn will make the monster bigger, smaller needles and thinner yarn will make the monster smaller. Pattern is the same for all. No tension swatch required as size doesn’t matter here!
Darning needle.
Beading needle or normal sewing needle if bead holes are large and not tiny.
Sequins, beads and buttons are an option.
Beading thread.
Method
The Valentines Mini Monster is knitted in the flat and then seamed using two different techniques, kitchener stitch and mattress stitch and also backstitch when sewing the ‘mouth’ which is a finishing option. Colour work is created on the knit side and the purl side.

There is also a bonus pattern for a micro monster attached. Knit with 4ply yarn and 2mm needles. Perfect for learning how to knit with small gauge needles and finer yarn!
