A quick knit, stashbuster that makes a fun and attractive way to deliver a gift card for a special Valentine. Use it later as a sachet, reward card case, etc.

A great project for using up bits and pieces of stash yarns, requiring only about 50 yards of each of the two main colors, and a very small bit of the contrasting color for the (optional) appliqued heart on the back. The heart may be “stuffed” with a small amount of fiber fill if a three-dimensional look is desired. Optional holiday-themed buttons are decorative embellishments only (no buttonholes).

The pattern is written for worsted-weight yarn, but can easily be adjusted for a different weight and gauge. The pattern stitch can be worked over any odd number of stitches.

As shown the gift card keeper measures 6” in width by 5” in height -- large enough to accommodate the hanging tags that hold gift cards in grocery and other stores.

The pattern stitch requires knit and slipped stitches; each color is worked for two rows with the color not in use carried up the side. No horizontal carrying needed.

The gift card keeper is made in one piece and seamed at each side.

Pattern includes directions for the gift card keeper and the optional appliqued heart.
