Meet Valhalla, an excellent lace pattern inspired by different parts of the old Viking ways. In this pattern, you will recognize various elements of this old Scandinavian belief and way of living. For example, the V-shaped rooftops of wooden houses and also the mark of most runes found in their communication. Vikings also had a strong connection to nature; they lived in harmony with it, using various elements to survive and thrive. Vikings were also great battlemen, and even if you fell during battle, the belief was that you ended up in Valhalla – the hall of the fallen. This hall was decorated with the most beautiful and precious things you’ve earned.

Some general information about the pattern:

Yarn Requirements: This pattern is made with a gradient type of yarn. For this version, I took a Scheepjes Whirl, which comes in 215-225 grams cakes with a length of 1000 meters of yarn. For my example, I used the Whirl 794 Earl Grey Custard and 761 pistachio oh so nice. You will need approx. 950 meters of yarn.

It doesn’t matter which type of yarn you take; you will need approximately 950 meters of yarn. It also depends on whether you crochet the project into a ring, as you will use approximately 50 meters of yarn for attaching it to the ring.

Crochet hook needed: I recommend a 3.0mm hook for the Whirl version.

Size: The diameter of the Whirl version will become 100 cm.
A ring is optional; if you like to use one, take the above diameter for a ring. However, it is better to crochet the project first and then decide the size of a ring.

-For this pattern, NO chart or video is available.

-To avoid overloading pattern text, always assume you crochet stitches in stitches – unless described to work in a ch-sp. If not, all ch-sps out of previous Rounds can be skipped.

-Although this pattern is relatively easy when it comes to stitching knowledge, you have to be good at reading a written pattern. There is a lot of text to read – and with it, to crochet the right stitches in the right places, it is essential to have knowledge of written patterns. A photo is attached to see how the result might look after the Round at each Round. This might give a good view of what is meant in the written parts.

-The pattern is designed to have good tension on all parts. For that reason, the result must be flat when spread out, even without a ring or blocking. Between Rounds, the pattern can ruffle or bobble a little—this will solve naturally along with further Rounds.
