A hooded scarf in garter stitch, composed of a combination of Variations on Triangle shawl and a balaclava structure. It is available in two fitting types: “snug-fitting” with the hood fitting snugly around the face and roomy “loose-fitting”.

The snug-fitting hood looks elegant and graceful, while the loose one is casual, like a hoodie. If you want to keep your voluminous hairstyle, the loose one is recommended.

The sizes are based on head circumferences with fine 2 cm (0.75”) increments. Measure the wearer’s head with a tape measure and knit the perfect size! It comes in 8 total sizes from 5-6 Y child size to adult 2XL and can be worked in 12 different gauges ranging from sport weight to bulky weight yarn. The child sizes’ scarves are shorter than in adult sizes. The pattern also provides instructions for striped color work.

This hooded scarf has a unique construction, starting with an octopus-like shape. The hood has, while knitting, a hole at the back, which makes it easier to work a hairpin turn of multiple increases. The hole will be closed with a three-needle bind-off technique.

After completion, this hole’s closure and the increases form a Y shape at the back of the hood. You may need to be careful not to forget increases until you complete the Y line, but after that, there are no more increases! You can go on without reading the instructions. You just knit long knit rows, which makes this project perfect for TV-knitting and take-along knitting.

For swatching, you will knit a mini size shawl with a smaller number of stitches and measure the top side’s length. And since we use this length as the pattern’s gauge, you don’t need to count the number of stitches! The swatch shawl can be offered to your stuffed toy or doll.

Gauge
As a gauge swatch, knit a tiny triangle shawl with your yarn and needle combination, then measure its wingspan after wet blocking. This wingspan is your gauge. You do not need to count the number of stitches. Knitting swatch is not only for gauge, but also to try the techniques used in pattern.

サイズは頭周りの大きさを基準に作ってあります. 2センチ間隔の細かいサイズ展開になっているので, 巻き尺でフードを被る人の頭周りを測ってぴったりなサイズを見つけて下さい. 5〜6歳の子どもサイズから、大人の2XLまで全部で8種類のサイズがあり, 糸の太さを変えてsport からBulky まで12種類のゲージで編めるパターンになっています. 子どもサイズのマフラー部分は大人のマフラーよりも短くなるように作ってあります. オプションで縞模様へのアレンジ方法を載せました.

このフードマフラーは編みかけがタコのような形になる面白い構造で編み進めていきます. 編んでいる途中のフードには穴が開いています. この穴があることで増し目のヘアピンカーブが編みやすくなっています. 穴は最後に3 needle BOという技法を使ってとじます.

フードを編み終わると後ろにYの字のラインが出来上がります. このYの字のところだけ, 増し目を忘れないように気をつけて編む必要があります. Yの字の増し目が終わると増し目がない長いガーター編みが続きます. パターンを見なくても編めるので, ながら編みやモバイル編みのお供にして下さい.

スワッチはショールと同じ形を少ない目数でミニチュアサイズに編みます. 編み終わったスワッチの横の長さを測って, この長さをゲージにします. 長さがゲージになるので目数を数える必要はありません. 編み終わったスワッチはぬいぐるみや人形のショールとして使ってみて下さい.
