The Velvet Ridge Cowl is a soft, warm crochet cowl designed to match my Velvet Ridge Chemo Cap.

It is worked in rows with #6 velvet chenille yarn and features a pretty ridged band made with my High Back Post Half Double Crochet and High Front Post Half Double Crochet stitches.

The cowl closes in the front with 3.75” buttons, so there is no need to make buttonholes. The buttons slip easily through the stitches.

Sizes

CHILDREN: approximately 22”

MED/LARGE: approximately 28”

The length can easily be adjusted by adding chains to the beginning chain.

Yarn & Hook

#6 velvet chenille yarn

I-9 (5.5 mm) crochet hook

3 or 4 large 3.75” buttons

I used Bernat Crushed Velvet in two colors, but Premier Just Chenille is another option.

Because velvet chenille can make stitches difficult to see, bright lighting and stitch markers are especially helpful. I recommend placing markers at the beginning and end of each row, plus every 20 stitches.

A Warm Cowl for Chemo Comfort

People going through chemotherapy or radiation can sometimes experience a deep feeling of cold. A soft, warm cowl around the neck can be a simple comfort.

This cowl pairs beautifully with the Velvet Ridge Chemo Cap and makes a thoughtful handmade gift or donation.
