This pattern came to life because of my love for playing with different materials, stitches, and thicknesses of yarn.
I loved the look and shine of the linen, however it is not a very thick nor warm yarn of course. The fluffy hairy yarn created by the alpaca mix counter balanced the shine of the linen perfectly. This combination especially combined with the stark contrast in thickness, yet keeping the colours quite close to each other, created a super fun fabric. To let the fabric created be the protagonist in this pattern, the rest of the hat is kept quite simple.
Because the two sides are so different, the hat is knitted long enough to have a fold over brim. Allowing you to show of both sides at the same time.
The brioche stitch is not for the faint of heart and the fact that the colours are not too contrasting yet the thickness is very different does not make it any easier. However, there are solely simple decreases in this hat pattern, so the stitches are not too hard. Maybe not the perfect project to learn brioche, but a great second project!
I hope you will feel comfortable playing with different materials, colours, and combinations and dare to make some fun new fabrics!
Happy knitting!
