Vera is my paternal grandmother’s name.

Some weeks ago, she asked me for a pair of fingerless gloves.

The odd thing is that my grandmother is a level 100 knitter.

I don’t know why she asked me to knit for her instead of knitting by herself as usual, but this request obviously threw me into panic.
So, after some days of swatches, research and a little bit of performance anxiety, I started knitting Vera. I used a wonderful soft green yarn (Drops Merino Extra Fine by Garnstudio) and choose a cable design, because she loves cables (and she also loves green). The result was beyond my expectations and I decided to write the pattern.
This is an easy and quick project, ideal as birthday present, Christmas gifts (especially if you have lot of gifts to do) or just to keep warm the hand of somebody you love.

Vera Fingerless Gloves are knitted in the round and from the bottom up, with magic loop or DPN’s, they’re perfect also to become familiar with cables. Since I always use magic loop, you will find some specific tips for this technique.

MATERIALS

1 skein of DK weight yarn (approx. 105 mt / 114 yrd) - I used Drops Merino Extra Fine by Garnstudio
Circular needles (min. 80 cm long) for magic loop or DPN’s, in size needed to obtain gauge (suggested size: US size 4 / 3.5 mm)
2 stitch markers
Scrap yarn to hold thumb stitches
Cable needle
Scissors
Tapestry needle

GAUGE
23 stitches and 34 rows in 4 inches (10 cm), in stockinette stitch, in the round and after blocking

FINISHED DIMENSIONS
Ht: 7,8 inches (20 cm) / Circ: 5,5 inches (14 cm)

One size (to fit average lady’s hand -or for men with not enormous hands)
