This pattern accompanies the Skill Building article on how to start seams, and I designed it with that in mind. There are lots of seams. Intarsia or knitting a piece side-to-side are two typical methods used to create a design with vertical stripes. I chose to knit each stripe alone and then seam them. I found I really liked doing this as I don’t mind seaming at all. Using the intarsia technique would have required five separate balls of yarn, and I can’t say I enjoy that type of yarn management. Knitting this top side-to-side would have required short rows and would have changed the skill level. This top provides an excellent opportunity for starting a seam and improving your seaming skills.
