My Vesty Thing is a wonderfully oversized sweater/tee/vest, worked in a stitch known in Danish as “Half Brioche”; a very easy-to-work stitch, where every other row is just knit stitches! It uses Aran weight yarn (which I got by combining 4 different yarns) and uses relatively heavy needles.

Use it over a shirt – then it’s a sweater. Use it over a top – then it’s a tee. Or use it over a light jacket – then it’s a vest!

It is worked top-down, and the shoulders are knit together with a 3-needle I-cord. The body is open; you add buttons so you can close it or leave it open, depending on your outfit and preferences.

Sizes 1-2-3-4

Bust circumference on finished garment
120-133-150-167 cm / 47.3-52.4-59-65.7 inches

Fit
Vesty Thing is designed to be worn with 20-50 cm / 8-20 inches positive ease. The measurements given are on the finished garment, so you can choose the ease according to your preferences.

Yardage
670-750-900-990 m Aran weight. I have held 4 strands together to get an Aran weight:

2 x 670-750-900-990 meter sport weight yarn (300 meter pr. 100 gr)
2 x 670-750-900-990 meter lace weight yarn (I have used a fine mohair, 900 meter pr. 100 gr)

The sample is knit in Italiensk Merino, 1 strand “Sort” and 1 strand “Kaffe”, held together with 2 strands of Børstet Mohair, colorway “Trøffel” – all from Garnspecialisten:

Suggested needles
4 mm circular, 40 cm for neckline ribbing (or you can use magic loop)
5 mm circular, 80 cm for body and sleeves (use magic loop when needed). You will need an extra needle in the larger size for the shoulders – if you don’t have an extra needle the same size, you can use one that is one size either smaller or larger.

Gauge
12 stitches x 22 rows/rounds in Half Brioche on larger needles = 10 x 10 cm.

Please note: If you cannot get gauge, please try larger or smaller needles.
