Victorian Wrister "Cuff" by Laura Bain

Victorian Wrister "Cuff"

This pattern is available from etsy.com for $5.00.

The instructions to make “Another Pair of Cuffs” appear in the 1846 edition of Decorative Needlework or The Handbook of Needlework, Decorative and Ornamental. This modern interpretation of the pattern has been translated and brought up-to-date for the contemporary knitter. Finished objects that are produced using this pattern may be worn by reenactors looking to wear authentic items that would have been knit in the middle of the 19th Century.

I believe the original instructions were written from memory (or were an attempt at reverse engineering a finished object), because if one works the pattern as written the result is not very aesthetically pleasing, in my humble opinion. There are two ways to make these cuffs more aesthetically pleasing covered in this interpretation. One is knit in the round, the other knit flat.
