The cuff of this mitten incorporates two rows of Latvian fringe. Above the fringes are multiple knit/purl (garter stitch) rows, one of which is in three colors. The Jumis symbol in the chart is related to an ancient deity personifying fertility and well being (Grasmane) and stalks of grain, heavy with seed. The upper mitten is knit with two and three colors throughout. In all, six colors are required for this mitten.

Krustpils sits southeast of Riga.
