Sweet bobble clusters are the highlight of the Vika Hat. Nestled inside cables, they create textural interest and whimsical appeal. A lovely merino/silk/yak blend yarn from Greenwood Fiberworks gives softness, sheen, and an elegant slouch. You might need to knit a Vika Hat in more than one color!

This pattern contains both fully charted and written instructions.

Recommended Yarn:
Greenwood Fiberworks DK Yakity Yak — 65% merino / 20% silk / 15% yak — 232 yds (212 m) to 100 g per skein. Shown in size XL on adult (colorway Cherry Tonal) and in size M/L on child (colorway Cobalt Blue Tonal). Yardage estimates include a 10% cushion for gauge differences.

Yardage per size —
S: 155 yds (142 m)
M/L: 165 yds (151 m)
XL: 175 yds (160 m)

Sizing (unstretched):

S: 16” (40.5 cm) around and 8.75” (22 cm) high, to fit head sizes 20-21” (51-53.5 cm).

M/L: 17.25” (44 cm) around and 8.75” (22 cm) high, to fit head sizes 21-22” (53.5-56 cm).

XL (adult): 18.5” (47 cm) around body and 9” (23 cm) high, to fit head sizes 23-24” (58.5-61 cm).

(Slouchiness will be more pronounced in smaller sizes. DK Yakity Yak will relax more in blocking and wearing than yarns with an all-wool fiber composition.)

Gauge:
24 sts and 32 rounds over 4” (10 cm) in stockinette st, worked in the round and blocked.

PLEASE NOTE: Changes in gauge will affect finished size, look of motifs, and amount of yarn used. To meet given dimensions and ensure enough yarn, use needle size that gives gauge.

Needles:
US 4 (3.5 mm) and US 5 (3.75 mm) circular needles in 16” (40 mm) lengths, with US 5 (3.75 mm) DPNs for crown.

Samples were worked with US 5 (3.75 mm) and US 6 (4 mm) needles but as I tend to knit fairly tightly, I’ve listed needles one size smaller.*

Other Materials:
7 stitch markers (one distinct to mark beginning of round), cable needle in appropriate size, highlighter tape or other method of tracking chart (if needed), tapestry needle.
