I love the patterns in the Japanese Knitting Stitch Bible by Hitomi Shida, especially the more geometric ones. One of the patterns really caught my eye, and I thought it would make a pretty cowl. Well, the cowl grew into a short-sleeve tee and then into a pullover with the same pattern on the cuffs. This pattern includes instructions for all three, the long-sleeve version, the short-sleeve version, and the cowl. The cowl can be worn alone or with the long-sleeve version to give it a cowl-neck look.

The name of this pattern was inspired by the look of the lace pattern. I think it looks a bit like a sinuous vine. Many of my relatives—most recently, my daughter—have lived on a quaint, curvy street in a neighborhood in Salt Lake City named Vine Street. It seemed like the perfect name!
