Vintage Circular Potholder
I reverse engineered this pattern from a potholder that my friend had received from her mother-in-law. My friend and her husband claim that these are the best potholders they’ve ever owned. Mrs. Trader had 2 versions - a plain crocheted version and a fancier version with rick-rack woven in and out of the crochet stitches. This pattern is for the plain version without the rick rack.
The Potholder is round and is created by crocheting 2 separate layers and then crocheting the 2 layers with wrong sides facing using half double crochet around the perimeter. Instructions are given for an optional loop for hanging the potholder.
Note on materials: I suggest using pure cotton or perhaps linen as synthetic fibers tend to melt when removing hot items from the stove top or oven. The potholder could also include a circle of batting or insulating or heat resistant material placed between the 2 layers to increase the insulating properties.
