I decided to throw together an Advent knitalong, and this is it.

Vinterfjord is a Norwegian word that I do not think really is a word, come to think about it. We are lucky in the Norwegian language that we can make new words, but I digress. “Vinterfjord” directly translates into English as “Winter Fjord” (who saw that coming??). The pattern is meant to portray a fjord during winter, with waves, snow and seaweeds. The colors are dark and full of contrast. On the shore, you can see the white snow covering rocks and sand, and the ocean is dark and murky. The natural white and charcoal grey are good colors for this. What colors do you find in your winter fjord?

The pattern is available in Norwegian and English.

For this hat I used 30 grams of the main color and 20 grams of the contrasting color. I used Vilje Lamullgarn from Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk (a Norwegian brand). I think just about every fingering weight yarn will do for this pattern. As always, I recommend that you use a locally sourced yarn, preferably wool, to reduce climate footprints and ensuring quality.
