Viola Shawl
If you are looking for the perfect project to keep your hands busy and create something beautiful and timeless, this pattern is for you. After the first six rows, the pattern is a 16-row repeat which will have you get into a relaxing flow very quickly.
While the pattern is fairly complex, I’ve explained everything in as much detail as possible to make it easy to follow.
That’s why I added various types of instructions (chart / written instructions / detailed instructions with photos). Be assured that you do not have to be able to read a chart in order to follow the pattern though, you can follow whichever option is easiest for you to understand!
What’s included in the pattern
- A chart (diagram)
- A high-res photo of the first full repeat as reference
- Stitch counts for every row (and for following repeats)
- Written instructions (printer-friendly on two pages)
- Detailed instructions including photos for each row and additional graphics for exact stitch placement where needed
- Step-by-step instructions with photos for any complex stitches used in the pattern (back-post double crochet, puff stitch, etc.)
The pattern has been tested by crocheters of various skill levels and some testers following only the chart or only the written instructions to make sure everything is clear on its own.
Measurements
145 cm / 57 inch wingspan using one 200g cake of Cotton Kings Sultan (you can adjust the size by doing more/less repeats according to your preferences).
Gauge
22 DC / 10 rows in 10x10 cm / 4x4 inches.
Terminology
The pattern is written in US terms.
Difficulty
Intermediate (or confident beginner, as long as you are familiar with the basic stitches such as single/half-double/double crochet, slip stitch, etc.)
Materials needed
- Yarn: Cotton Kings Sultan (800m/200g) cotton is my recommendation, but you can use any yarn of your choice as gauge is not particularly important in this pattern.
- Crochet hook: 3.50mm or what matches your yarn of choice.
- Tapestry needle for weaving in ends
- Scissors
- Blocking supplies (not required but highly recommended)
- Optional: 4.0mm glass beads or any beads of your choice - in the pattern you have the option of either adding picot stitches or adding beads instead (detailed instructions for both options are included in the pattern).
