Welcome to the Virginia

This pattern is in mosaic crochet, using the Overlay method (also known as: the one row method or Tinna’s method).
Welcome to the Virginia. The name was inspired by Virginia Woolf, who I was reading about a lot in the time I was crocheting this blanket. I also think the pattern has an Art Deco vibe, which matches with the period that Virginia Woolf lived in.
The pattern is an easy repeat that has an amazing effect. It works up beautifully with only two colors, with 43 colors (as I did) and probably everything in between. It’s a perfect stash buster!
I for one can’t wait to see what beautiful blanket you will crochet!

The pattern includes

• Charts and written instructions
• Instructions and pattern for a double border
• A separate document explaining the Basics of Mosaic Crochet: the stitches, reading the pattern, solutions for the ends, easy way to do a double border, easy starting row and color use

The blanket measures 195 x 135 centimeters/77 inches x 53 inches, with 20.5 repeats in height and 13.5 repeats wide and with the double border.

Yarn stats

I’m giving you the yarn stats for Stylecraft Special DK crocheted with a 4,5 mm/G/7 hook, because that is what I used. You can of course use different yarn and corresponding hook, but the amounts of yarn needed and size of your blanket may be different. One ball of yarn is 100 grams/3,527 ounces.
Total blanket, with the double border: 1.775 grams/62.5 ounces; 1053 grams/37 ounces of color A and 722 grams/25.5 ounces of color B.
Total blanket, without border: 1.400 grams/49.4 ounches; 800 grams/28.2 ounches of color A and 600 grams/21.2 ounces of color B.
The double border: 375 grams/13.2 ounces; 253 grams/8.9 ounches of color A and 122 grams/4.3 ounces of color B.
For the main body of the blanket, you will need a 4,5 mm hook (G/7 hook). You will also need a hooks two sizes smaller than that for the border.

My blanket

I used Stylecraft Special DK (SSDK) in 10 different colors for my color A and SSDK in 33 different colors for my color B.
The blanket will also look great using only two colors. And probably also using anything in between.

Happy crocheting!
