Dig in your scraps and have fun!

Vulkan sweater has a circular yoke, cropped body and sleeves with volume at the underarms and a tight rib. Knit top-down with texture, color-work, lace and cable. You start with the neckline, short rows in the back and knit the yoke with a horizontal cable. After the cable you pick up stitches and finish the yoke before you separate for body and sleeves that are knit separately.

Sizes: XS (S) M (L) XL (2XL) 3XL

Measurements:
Circumference finished garment: Circa 81 (92) 102 (113) 124 (141) 151 cm/32 (36) 40 (44.5) 49 (55.5) 59 inches
Upper arm circumference (fitted): 25 (28) 32 (35) 39 (42) 46 cm/10 (11) 12.5 (14) 15 (16.5) 18 inches.
Sleeve length: Circa 46 cm/18 inches or desired length
Body length: 34 (35) 36 (36) 37 (37) 38 cm/13 (13.5) 14 (14) 14.5 (14.5) 15 inches or desired length.

Gauge: 17 sts on 10 cm/4 inches

NB! Gauge will vary based on yarn and structure throughout the sweater. Please choose a size that is minimum 10 cm/4 inches larger than you own measurements to make sure the change in gauge will give the garment an interesting surface, but not make it too tight. Make a swatch with YARN C on the suggested needle sizes. If your gauge is more than 18 sts on 10 cm/4 inches you need a larger needle or thicker yarn.

Needles sizes:
Main: 4.5 mm (US 7) – 5 mm (US 8)
Rib: 4 mm (US 6) – 4.5 mm (US 7)

Yarn:
This sweater was made with scrap yarn in mind. My tip is to gather up all your waste yarn in a color scheme, no matter quality or weight, and pick up a new quality each time the pattern calls for a color change. As a guide I have split the yarn into six different qualities. Before each new section I give a suggestion to what quality you can use. These are just suggestions. You are free to do whatever you want! Hold yarn double or triple to get desired gauge and play around and have fun!

If you wish to make a sweater with new yarn you may follow the yarn suggestions at the bottom of the page.

Yarn (scrap yarn version):
YARN A (sport): Wool, merino, alpaca, etc. with about 175 m on 50 g. You may also achieve this by combining fingering and lace yarn.
YARN B (lace): This silk mohair with about 200 – 300 m on 25 g, or other thin yarn like silk lace or cashmere lace.
YARN C (DK): This is the main color(s) and is the same as yarn A and B held together, or any other DK yarn.
YARN D (fluffy bulky): Bulky fluffy yarn like thick mohair or alpaca suri.
YARN E (bulky blow): Bulky and airy blow yarn like Rauma Puno or Sandnes Kos. You can also use a heavier bulky wool yarn.
YARN F (glitter): Thin glitter yarn. If you do not like glitter you can replace this with a yarn from group B.

Yarn (new yarn-version):
YARN A (sport): Rauma Finull (403)
YARN B (lace): Rauma Plum (in two colors so you can create two shades of YARN C, when held with YARN A) (001 & 057)
YARN C (DK): Rauma Finull and Rauma Plum held together.
YARN D (fluffy bulky): Rauma Tjukk Mohair (should be a contrast to yarn C) (001)
YARN E (bulky blow): Rauma Puno (1310)
YARN F (glitter): Rauma Concorde (21)

Quantity:
YARN A: 150 (150) 150 (200) 200 (200) 250 (250) g Rauma Finull
YARN B: 50 (50) 50-75 (75) 75 (75-100) 100 (100) g Rauma Plum in two colors.
YARN C: Rauma Finull and Rauma Plum held together – see yarn A and B.
YARN D: 50 (50) 100 (100) 100 (100) 100 (100) g Rauma Tjukk Mohair
YARN E: 50 (100) 100 (100) 100 (100) 100 (100) g Rauma Puno
YARN F: 1 (1) 1 (1) 1 (2) 2 (2) skeins Rauma Concorde – all sizes will make do with one skein if they replace some sections with YARN B.

If you add extra length to the yoke, body and/or sleeves you will need more yarn.

You will also need: Cable needle, stitch markers, sts holders/waste yarn, scissors and needle to weave in loose ends.
