Lake Waban sits at one side of the college I attended in New England. Maple trees surround it with color in the fall. Waves from the oars of early morning rowers lap against the pilings of the campus boathouse and the shore of the topiary garden across the lake. The Waban Scarf recreates these gentle waves with sinuous bands of alternating knit and purl stitches in a plied alpaca blend, yielding a reversible scarf.

The scarf is knit flat and the wave pattern is mirrored on both sides of the neck. There are options for knitting it in one piece, or in two pieces which are then either Kitchener grafted or joined by a three-needle bind-off in the center back. If knit in two pieces, the Kitchener grafting will give you a completely reversible scarf, the three-needle bind-off will give you a narrow seam.

Skills needed: knit, purl, slipped stitches, long-tail cast-on, Kitchener grafting or three-needle bind-off, patterned on both sides.
