WAFFEL SOFT

A light, airy oversized sweater with a beautifully simple sleeve-to-sleeve construction.

Waffel Soft is a wonderfully soft and lightweight sweater designed by MosterMoster.

With its relaxed oversized silhouette, subtle boat neck and clean seed-stitch details, Waffel Soft is an easy-to-wear sweater with a timeless Scandinavian feel.

The sweater is worked flat from sleeve to sleeve. You begin at the left cuff and shape the sleeve with increases before casting on stitches for the body. The work is temporarily divided into front and back to create the boat neck, then joined again before continuing across the body and into the right sleeve.

The seed-stitch edges add subtle texture to the otherwise simple stockinette fabric.

SKILL LEVEL

★★☆☆☆ — Easy / Advanced Beginner

Waffel Soft is suitable for confident beginners who are comfortable with basic knit and purl stitches and are ready to work simple shaping.

The pattern includes clear step-by-step instructions for the increases, sleeve shaping, dividing and rejoining the work for the boat neck, and finishing.

FIT

Waffel Soft is designed with generous positive ease for a comfortable, oversized fit.

To preserve the proportions and silhouette of the original design across the full size range, the amount of positive ease is gradually adjusted in the larger sizes.

YARN

Silkemohair – MosterMoster

The sweater is worked with 2 strands held together throughout.

Yarn requirements:
7 (7) 8 (8) 9 (9) 10 (10) 11 (11) 12 (13) balls

Yarn requirements are approximate and may vary depending on your individual gauge.

YARN SUBSTITUTION

You can substitute the original yarn with another yarn or yarn combination that gives the same gauge and a similar lightweight, soft and airy fabric.

For the closest result, choose a silk mohair or similar brushed lace-weight yarn and hold 2 strands together.

A suitable substitute should allow you to achieve:

18 stitches × 26 rows = 10 × 10 cm / 4 × 4 in in stockinette stitch using approximately 5 mm / US 8 needles.

Fiber content, halo, elasticity and drape will affect the finished look and feel of the sweater. Always knit, wash and dry a gauge swatch before starting.

When substituting yarn, calculate your requirements by yardage/meterage rather than by number of balls, as skein sizes and yardage can vary considerably between yarns.

GAUGE

18 stitches × 26 rows = 10 × 10 cm / 4 × 4 in in stockinette stitch using 5 mm / US 8 needles.

Measure your gauge swatch after washing and allowing it to dry completely.

Because Waffel Soft is worked from sleeve to sleeve, both stitch gauge and row gauge are important for achieving the intended finished measurements and proportions.

CONSTRUCTION

Waffel Soft is worked flat from sleeve to sleeve.

The sweater begins at the left cuff. Increases are worked to shape the left sleeve before stitches are cast on at both ends of the needle to create the front and back of the body.

The body is then worked sideways. A seed-stitch section is established for the neck edging before the work is temporarily divided into front and back to form the boat neck.

The two sections are then joined again, and the second half of the body is worked as a mirror image of the first.

The body stitches are bound off before the right sleeve is shaped with decreases. The sweater is finished with a seed-stitch cuff and seamed along the sleeves and sides.
