I like the feel of this waffle check slip-stitch pattern. It’s stretchy, comfortable, and colorful. However, it’s a challenge to manage the gauge of the Waffle Check pattern with the gauge of stockinette. For this pair of knee-highs, I used a variety of needle sizes. Stockinette required a size 1, while a size 3 was used for the instep pattern. The second problem was adjusting the circumference to fit the ankle, shin, and calf. Rather than use increases and decreases, I changed the needle sizes, using sizes 1, 2, and 3. The pattern is written for two sizes: Medium (M) for a woman and Large (L) for a man. The foot length and length from heel to the top of the cuff can be personalized.
