I was delighted to have been asked by Kelsey (Primrose Yarn Co) to design a sweater for Vogue Knitting Live in New York (2019) our of her yarn. I had this idea for a pullover in mind for a while so as soon as she mentioned the collaboration I knew exactly what I wanted it to be!

This pattern is engaging to knit but still vanilla enough to be great TV knitting. One of the intentions of this sweater was to make it reversible, so while I have labelled the stockinette side the back and the Waffle pattern side the front, you can easily switch it up and wear the finished pullover either way. With that in mind the pullover is designed with the neckline being the same in the front and the back so that it can be worn either way comfortably.

Also please note that there are several tips and notes included in the pattern along the way so I STRONGLY SUGGEST YOU READ THE PATTERN ONCE over carefully before starting and also to highlight the numbers (stitch counts, measurements, etc) that are relevant to the size you are knitting so you don’t make any mistakes along the way.

What you will need:

Yarn – 300-700gm of Fingering weight Yarn (360m/395yd per 100gm) – Yarn used for the sample is Primrose Yarn Co on the Margaux base (SW Merino, Cashmere & Nylon base – 544m/595yd per 150gms) in the following colourways:
• Colour 1 - When Legos Attack
• Colour 2 - Crime of Passion
• Colour 3 - The Picket Line of the Parade
• Colour 4 - From London, With Love
• Colour 5 - Morticia

See size chart for more information regarding yardage amounts for each size, and how much yarn you would need if knitting it all in one colour or yardages for each section if you are using 5 colours (Size chart is the last photo on the left).

Needles - 3.25mm (US 3) on 80cm (32in) circulars, and 3.75mm (US5) on 80cm (32in) or 100cm (40in) for larger sizes and 40cm (16in) circulars, (a spare set of long circular needles can also be handy to use as stitch holders) you will also need needles on a long cord to work the sleeves in Magic Loop or you could use DPN’s.

Notions

  • Beginning of Round Marker, and a distinct side seam marker
  • Progress Keepers
  • Scrap yarn (or stitch holders),
  • Tapestry Needle

Gauge – The Gauge is measured on your larger needles, and is 24sts/4inches and 36rows/4inches measured over Stockinette. The Gauge in the Waffle pattern is 20sts/4inches and 36rows/4inches – Gauge should be measured AFTER blocking.

Sizing – The pattern includes 8 sizes ranging from 35” up to 70” and the finished garment is intended to be worn with 4-8 inches (10-20cm) of positive ease so you will need to pick the size that will give you the amount of ease you want. The length of the sleeves (18inches / 45.5cm) and body (18.5inches / 47cm) can be easily adjusted to suit your preference and there are notes included on how to make these adjustments especially if you are using multiple colours.
