This 1 color brioche sweater pattern is worked from the top down using raglan shaping with extra detailing worked in the front to create that unique diamond shape. This sweater can be made a normal sweater length or a little cropped depending on your preference.

The pattern is written for 1 color brioche with a special video tutorial made to explain the short row shaping of the back neck. If you want to make it in 2 colors you may have to get creative with the short rows. I’ve linked a couple sources I found on how to work 2 color brioche short rows, but the pattern doesn’t explain it, it explains it only in 1 color brioche.

I recommend choosing a finished bust measurement that is around 4 - 11” {10-28 cm} larger than your actual bust measurement. Sample is size 4 with 9.25” {23.5 cm} of positive ease.

GAUGE

Blocked brioche fabric in the round

If you have to stretch your swatch too far to match gauge, consider going up a needle size or two. If you stretch the fabric too far it will lose the great squish factor of brioche.

Be careful when swatching, I really recommend you make a large swatch. Especially if you’re using superwash yarn because your sweater will likely stretch a lot when wet blocking at the end because of the nature of brioche and SW yarn. If you make a large swatch at the start you’re likely to get a more accurate reading on how the sweater will behave in the end.

  • This pattern is written for 1 color brioche, but if you’re an adventurous knitter and you want to use 2 colors you will have to be a little creative with the short row section. I’ve linked a few tutorials similar to that topic in the pattern.

  • This pattern has been professionally tech edited and test knit, unfortunately I was unable to find testers for sizes 8, 9 & 10 (although they have been tech edited), so if you knit those sizes and find any issues please email me.
