The inspiration for my Walrus blanket has been Sir David
Attenborough’s amazing programme, ‘Blue Planet 2’.
The programme is not only about the extraordinary beauty of
the World that we live in, but there is also an emphasis on how important it is to be aware
of the fragility of our environment.
I was truly astonished when I watched the poor mother Walrus, swimming in the icy waters
of the Arctic, desperately clutching to her exhausted pup as she grows increasingly tired
needing to find a resting place for herself and her baby. As ice flows diminish, she finds
competition so fierce she must fight her way through the other breeding Walruses to find
sanctuary.
I wanted the blanket to be warm, comforting and safe, like a Mother’s hug.
The pattern offers two yarn options:
1st option using Stylecraft’s Special Aran and Alpaca Tweed Chunky;
2nd option made with Scheepjes Stonewashed XL.
Special thanks go out to Poppy’s of Holmfirth the supplier of the yarn and product

Happy hooking,

Lucia xx
