Lately on Saturday mornings, I like to take the boys for a walk and let them decide what direction we go. The design of this sock was my attempt to capture the blissful feeling of taking a walk for the sake of wandering. No destination, just getting outside, taking in the fresh air and getting lost on purpose.

This design was also a collaboration with a the amazing dyer, Sew Happy Jane. I was inspired by her American wool base and it was loosely influenced by a fox-like clever character, with a knack for exploration in a book I finished recently (any guesses?). This top down sock has 2 different heel options and 5 sizes, making it a great gift sock for any knitworthy loved one. Simple meandering X’s and O’s cable design is great for adventurous beginners, and the eyelet channels give the socks lost of stretch for a comfortable fit.

I can’t wait to see you cast on and I hope you get blissfully lost in this sock (in all the good ways). Happy knitting!

MATERIALS

  • Size US 1 Needles - 9” circulars
  • Size US 1 Needles - 30” circulars
  • 400-500 yds of fingering weight yarn (100-120g)
  • Darning Needle
  • Stitch markers
  • Scissors
  • Cable needle or a size US 3 DPN

Note: I love knitting socks on 9” circulars. I find them quick and they tend to give me the best results when working in a pattern. This pattern can be easily translated to magic loop or DPN’s if you prefer.

YARN RECOMMENDATIONS

Sample knit with Sew Happy Jane
All American Sock 100g in “Sly Fox”

This pattern looks great in a tonal, solid, speckle or tweed. The sample yarn is a nice structured american wool sock base with great stitch definition. This would also be a great sock in a BFL or non superwash sock base.
