I was looking to design a fun detail to add to self-striping socks. I chose to use this fun faux cable pattern that wanders up the outside of each leg. There are instructions for both the right sock and the left sock. The chart is used by both socks. Chart and written instructions for chart found on page 3.

This pattern has instructions for both a top-down (pages 4-5) and toe-up (pages 6-7) fingering weight sock. It uses a heel flap with a square turn for the top-down and an afterthought heel for toe-up. It is worked using magic loop; N1 will be front of foot/instep/leg, and N2 will be back of foot/leg and heel.

Top-down sample knit size 3 with Freckled Whimsy Glee ‘Spring Awakens’ 54g MC, 20 CC. Toe-up sample knit size 4 with Must Stash Yarn Perfect Self Striping Sock ‘Not All Who Wander are Lost’ 50g MC, Coates & Co mini ‘Autumn Tonals set’ 13g CC.
