This cowl is knit with a super bulky yarn. It will knit up lickity-split and be very cozy! The drawback to a thickly knit cowl is the fit. Sometimes it overwhelms the wearer with its abundance. With this in mind we designed this cowl so that the back of the neck is narrower than the front and there is a split bottom hem that fits nicely around the shoulders. This cowl will feel snug were it needs to so that it keeps out the cold, while conforming to your body and allowing movement. The yarn we used is a very unique core-spun yarn from a small farm in southern Ontario. It is comprised of 100% alpaca which makes a knitted fabric that is not too stiff which also adds to the comfortable fit in this accessory.
This project is worked from the neck down in rounds, with German Short Row shaping around neck, the bottom hem is worked in two sections in a ribbing stitch. Included in the pattern is a tutorial for the German Short Row Method and some tips for working with a core-spun yarn.

Materials:
12mm needles to knit small circumference in the round: double pointed needles, or circular 40cm, or long needle for magic loop. We also tried a 60cm circular with the cord hanging out part way during the first few rows, after that it fit pretty comfortable on this length too.
